Social Media Intern at Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado - Summer 2024

Butterfly Pavilion is the one-of-a-kind, AZA- accredited invertebrate zoo located in Westminster, Colorado that specializes in invertebrate research, education, and conservation. During my 15 week internship at Butterfly Pavilion, I learned how to effectively engage their existing audience as well as how to spark interest in a broader audience and encourage an appreciation for these small but mighty animals. Over the summer, I captured footage and photos of their animals and exhibits, edited this media into video and images that were platform-ready, wrote copy for posts and blogs on their website, and attended events to capture media for the marketing team.

This internship was instrumental in my development as a media professional. I gained daily experience with video and photo editing, utilizing software in the Adobe Creative Suite, such as Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and Photoshop. Every week, I expanded upon my knowledge of videography and photography while capturing small invertebrate animals on camera. My writing skills were challenged as I learned how to best write accessible and effective educational copy. Lastly, I was consistently learning how to operate in a professional team setting that championed creativity, productivity, and personal growth. My time working at Butterfly Pavilion was a crucial milestone in my education and a valuable connection to the media professional network in the Denver Metro Area.
